Inspired by our time and the myths we create, Dr. Joseph Williams II makes music for people. He is the Artistic Director and Composer in Residence for Austin Classical Guitar. 

Joe creates music for storytellers, film, chamber settings, guitar ensembles and solo guitar. His most recent works, including dream and i/we (winner of the Austin Chronicle prize for Best New Composition of 2017), are community-oriented, collaborative and multimedia projects focused on expanding our understanding of each other. His music is published by Les Productions d’OZ and championed around the world by artists such as the Miro String Quartet, Adam Holzman, Cavatina Duo, Texas Guitar Quartet and Les Frères Méduses. 

Joe conducts the Austin Classical Guitar Youth Orchestra, one of the most active and progressive ensembles of its kind in the United States. He is regularly invited as a guest conductor and clinician for state and national events. 

As a soloist and member of the Texas Guitar Quartet, Joe has toured internationally, recorded three albums and won prizes in numerous guitar competitions. He served on the faculty of the University of New Mexico, University of Mary Hardin Baylor, Adams State University and Fort Lewis College and earned degrees from the University of Texas (2013, D.M.A.), University of Arizona (2004, M.M.) and University of New Mexico (2002, B.M.).
