Matthew Hinsley is the best person I know, and I'm proud to kick off this personal fundraising campaign in honor of his 40th birthday.

"Everything I Needed to Know About Matthew Hinsley, I Learned on Our First Date"

1) Cultured: he got tickets for us to attend the dress rehearsal of Austin Lyric Opera's Magic Flute.

2) Handsome: his cheeks were rosy pink when we met outside Bass Concert Hall on that cold November evening.

3) Scholarly: "I just received this copy of Soundboard, the classical guitar journal. I have an article in it! Do you mind if I show it to you? I haven't even looked at it yet--I came straight here."

4) Moved by great music: he murmured appreciatively throughout the performance.

5) Thoughtful: he pointed out that my rear tire was a little flat after we returned to the car.

6) Caring: he talked about his siblings, and it was clear how much he loved and respected them.

7) Driven: he showed me the season brochure for another city's classical guitar organization, and he announced, "See this? I want to make Austin Classical Guitar Society even bigger."

8) Game: when I suggested for our next date that we see the Asylum Street Spankers perform at the Gospel Brunch at La Zona Rosa--he didn't bat an eyelid.

And since then, we have had a beautiful life together. Thank you for considering making a donation in honor of my husband and his work at Austin Classical Guitar.

Austin Classical Guitar is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to inspire each member of our community through musical experiences of deep personal significance. ACG has built and now supports 55 school programs in Austin serving thousands of diverse young people in daily, for-credit classes including programs at the Travis County Juvenile Justice System, Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired, and Annunciation Maternity Home. ACG assists communities throughout North America and beyond to build similar programs through teacher training, curriculum development, and administrative assistance. We present seven concert series, offer youth and adult community performance ensembles, and create special programs ranging from writing lullabies with young mothers in challenging socio-economic circumstances, to services for adults living with mental health diagnoses. We are passionate about the thrill of discovery through artistry in music education and performance. We demonstrate this in everything we do.
